Welcome Address

Speaker notes

[On screen from the run of show: Tobìnrin logo, idle motion. This slide holds while the room settles.]

[Walk out. Pause. Smile. Let the room settle before the first line.]

[Advance to “The Search” as you begin.]

The Search

Speaker notes

I want to start with a question. How many of you have had an owambe on your calendar, an outfit ready, gele sorted, and then two days before, you realise you still don't have a makeup artist?

[Pause for the laugh and the hands.]

Yes. I see you. Because that was me. Almost every time.

My favourite makeup artist would be fully booked. Or she had a bride that weekend. Or she was travelling. Or she was free, but way above my budget. And so the scramble would begin. Scrolling through Instagram at midnight. Group calls with my friends: “Who did your face for that wedding? Is she good? Is she available?” Sending DMs and waiting. Sending more DMs and waiting.

Or I'd walk into a salon wanting a ponytail, see that they were fully booked, sit down anyway, and quietly think to myself: there is someone out there right now who does this beautifully, who is free this afternoon, and I simply don't know her. She isn't on my timeline. None of my friends know her. So for me, she doesn't exist.

[Beat.]

That thought stayed with me. Not because finding a specialist was hard. Because it was hard for no reason. The talent was there. The women looking for that talent were there. There just wasn't a place where we could find each other.

And when we started reaching out to specialists for this very event, it happened again. Every few days, a new name would come up, a new profile, a new page, and I would sit there thinking: wow. Where has this brand been hiding?

They weren't hiding. They were just outside our network.

That is the difference between searching the whole internet and hoping you get lucky, and having one place you go when you're looking for someone good.

That place is Tobìnrin.

The journey so far

  1. 5 yearscarrying the idea
  2. Brand battlesthe name, the look
  3. Nights & weekendsbuilding and testing
  4. Communityone specialist at a time
  5. Todaysomething to show
Speaker notes

You've heard my name already. Let me tell you a little more about me.

I have always loved beauty, wellness, the rituals we keep to take care of ourselves and show up as our best. My working life has been in tech: tech consulting across industries, then fintech and ride hailing. I've spent years seeing how the right technology can make everyday life simpler. Tobìnrin is where those two parts of me met.

I have been carrying this idea for about five years. Five years. [Pause.]

So why did it take that long? Because building something like this the right way takes time. And honestly, it took a few battles.

[Click: Brand battles] There was the battle over the brand itself. The name, the look, the feeling. We went back and forth more times than I can count, because whatever we called this had to feel like it belonged to us.

There was the season I trusted the wrong people. I was duped by an engineer and a designer I hired to build it. [Beat.] That one is a story for another day. [Light laugh, move on.] But it cost me time, and it taught me a lot.

[Click: Nights & weekends] And through all of it, I kept my 9 to 5. Meetings by day, Tobìnrin by night. Weekends spent building and testing the product, screen by screen, asking family and friends to break it, then fixing what they broke. [Light laugh line, let it land.]

[Click: Community] At the same time, we were building something just as important as the product: a community. Online, one post, one conversation, one specialist at a time. Many of you found us there, and many of you are sitting in this room today.

So yes, five years. Of starting, stopping, and starting again. But it never left me. And I'm glad we didn't rush it.

[Click: Today] Today, there is something to show.

The Brand

Speaker notes

[Wordmark on screen.]

Let me come back to our name for a moment.

Tobìnrin is Yoruba for “for females.” For her. And that is exactly who this is for. It is for the woman getting ready for the owambe, the dinner, the trip, the big day. Everything we built starts with her, and with the specialists, women and men, whose skill and patience help her look and feel the way she does.

[Advance to “Just bloom”.]

Just bloom

Speaker notes

[“Just Bloom” on screen.]

And our promise, Just Bloom, means something very specific to us.

Blooming is not about becoming someone new. A flower doesn't try to be a different flower. It simply opens into what it already is. That is what we want for every woman who uses Tobìnrin. For the shopper, it's walking out feeling like herself, fully. For the specialist, it's a business growing into everything they know it can be.

You'll notice the bloom runs through everything we do. You saw it in the flowers that came with your invitation, and you'll see it all through the product.

Shopper and Service Specialist

A stylish woman in a trench coat striding across a Lagos street with a handbag.
A smiling beauty professional in a printed skirt standing in her bright, well-stocked beauty bar.
Speaker notes

And you'll hear two words from me a lot today: shopper and specialist.

We chose them on purpose. A shopper is a woman who chooses. She compares, she decides, she knows what she wants, and she deserves a place that respects her time and her taste. And a specialist is exactly that: a skilled professional with real expertise. Not a vendor. Not “my hair person.” A specialist.

So let me introduce you to both of them.

A stylish woman in a trench coat and loafers striding across a Lagos street, handbag in hand.

The Shopper

Speaker notes

First, the shopper.

She is every woman in this room who has ever needed someone good, at the right time, and didn't know where to look. She is busy. She has standards. She has an event on Saturday and a life to live before then.

For her, Tobìnrin is one place to discover, book, and pay for the services she needs.

What makes Tobìnrin different for the shopper

  • Talent beyond her network

  • One place for it all

  • Reviews

  • Service requests

Speaker notes

Here's what makes Tobìnrin different for her.

[On arrival: the categories gather into Talent beyond her network] Talent beyond her network. She finds specialists she would never have met through her timeline or her group chat.

[Click 1 · One place for it all] One place for it all. 24 categories, one search, and she can discover, book, and pay without leaving Tobìnrin. [Check: the slide before says 21 categories.]

[Click 2 · Reviews] Reviews. She can read what other women say about a specialist before she books, and leave her own after.

[Click 3 · Service requests] Service requests. Can't find exactly what she needs? She posts a request on the marketplace, and specialists come to her to bid.

No more scrambling. No more hoping. Just a place to go.

Let me show you what that feels like.

[Advance: Video 1 plays.]

Video 1: For The Shopper

Video description, 1 minute, music only with no dialogue. The film opens on a photo of three young women in colourful Hausa attire with the title “For The Shopper”. A shopper scrolls a feed of looks (“See the work first.”), searches for knotless braids in Lekki and sees nearby specialists on a map (“Near you. Or at your door.”), opens a specialist's profile and picks Saturday at 7:00 am. She sends a payment link so someone else can pay, then posts a request for bridal makeup and receives three quotes (“Can't find it? Ask.”). She plans a whole wedding weekend (“The whole weekend, handled.”), chats with her specialist, reschedules, and leaves a five-star review. It ends on the Tobìnrin logomark, “For The Shopper.” and www.tobinrin.com.

What the film shows: the title “For The Shopper” over three young women in Hausa attire; browsing looks; searching knotless braids in Lekki on a map; booking Saturday 7:00 am; someone else paying via a link; a bridal makeup request with three quotes; a wedding weekend planned; chat, reschedule and a five-star review; end card with the logomark and www.tobinrin.com.

The Service Specialist

Speaker notes

Now, the specialist.

Earlier, I called you gardeners. You are the reason Tobìnrin exists.

You are the makeup artist up at 4am for a bride. The braider whose hands don't rest on a Saturday. The nail tech, the lash artist, the aesthetician, the massage therapist, building something real, one client at a time.

And so much of your business still runs on memory, WhatsApp, and a notebook. Bookings in your DMs. Deposits you have to chase. Clients who say “I'm coming” and don't come. A calendar that lives in your head.

Because beauty business is real business. It pays rent, school fees, and salaries. It deserves the same tools as any other business. And who better to build them for us than us?

So we built them.

What makes Tobìnrin different for the specialist

  • Be found

  • Run your own business in one place

  • See every naira

  • Less chasing

  • Credibility

Speaker notes

Here's what makes Tobìnrin different for you.

[On arrival · Be found] Be found. A professional profile where new clients discover your work and book you. Your next client doesn't have to already know you. She just has to be looking.

[Click 1 · Run your own business in one place] Run your whole business in one place. Bookings, schedule, and payments, together.

[Click 2 · See every naira] See every naira. Record your walk in clients too, the ones who never came through Tobìnrin, and see your whole business in one view.

[Click 3 · Less chasing] Less chasing. Shoppers pay through the platform when they book.

[Click 4 · Credibility] Credibility. A verified profile that tells clients you're the real deal.

Which means even on a day when no new client finds you on the marketplace, Tobìnrin is still working for you.

To our founding specialists, the ones we handpicked for this first chapter: thank you for saying yes before you'd seen it.

Here's what Tobìnrin looks like from your side.

[Advance: Video 2 plays.]

Video 2: For The Service Specialist

Video description, 1 minute, music only with no dialogue. The film opens on photos of specialists at work, a stylist braiding a client's hair in a colourful salon, with the title “For The Service Specialist”. A specialist sets up her studio profile and adds a service (“Your business, set up in minutes.”). Bookings fill her week, a marketplace request for bridal makeup arrives and her quote is accepted (“New clients come to you.”). Deposits and payments come in (“Deposits upfront. Fewer no-shows.”), she schedules her team's shifts (“Run the whole team.”), keeps notes on a client (“Know every client.”), creates a midweek deal (“Fill the quiet days.”) and watches her revenue chart grow (“See it all grow.”). It ends on the Tobìnrin logomark, “For The Service Specialist.” and www.tobinrin.com.

The live demo

Speaker notes

[The speech has no script for the live demo, and the run of show has no slot for it. It sits between Video 2 (ends 21:00) and “Where we are going” (21:00–24:00), so it eats into the 2-minute buffer. Agree its length with the owner.]

Where are we going?

What’s next?

Speaker notes

[“What's next?” on screen.]

What you just saw is the beginning. And I want to be honest with you about that.

We built the foundation. The essentials a specialist needs to run their bookings and their business, and the essentials a shopper needs to find them and book them. We kept it simple on purpose, because we didn't want to guess what you need. We wanted to ask you.

But I'll share a little of what we're dreaming about.

Today, Tobìnrin lives on the web, and you can add it to your phone's home screen like any app. Soon, we'll be in the app stores too.

What's next for Tobìnrin

  • A place she turns to for life, not just bookings

  • AI

  • Financial growth for service specialists

  • Giving back

Speaker notes

[On arrival · A place she turns to for life] A place she turns to for life, not just bookings. We want Tobìnrin to become the ultimate resource for navigating life.

[Click 1 · AI] AI. We're exploring smarter ways for a shopper to find the right specialist for her look, her budget, and her day, and smarter ways to help specialists run their businesses with less effort.

[Click 2 · Financial growth] Financial growth for specialists. We're working toward embedded finance, built right into Tobìnrin, so the money specialists earn here doesn't just sit. It keeps growing, even while they sleep.

[Click 3 · Giving back] Giving back. We want Tobìnrin to invest in the communities our specialists and shoppers come from.

But we won't get there alone.

Build it with us

Speaker notes

This is where you come in.

To our specialists: between today and November 11, we'll be onboarding every one of you in this room. Our team will walk with you as you set up your profile, list your services, and take your first bookings. Use every button. And then tell us everything. What works. What frustrates you. What you wish it did. Every piece of feedback goes straight to our team, and it will shape what Tobìnrin becomes.

[Advance to “Manifest it”.]

Manifest it

Speaker notes

And we've made that easy. Inside the app, there's a feature called Manifest It. If there's something you wish Tobìnrin did, a feature, a service, a category we don't have yet, you manifest it right there, and it comes straight to us.

And to make starting easy: for the next three months, Tobìnrin is free for every specialist.

To everyone else in this room: you are our first shoppers, our first champions, and honestly, our first critics. [Light laugh.] Sign up. Find a specialist. Tell your friends. And when you wish Tobìnrin did something more, manifest it too.

Because we didn't build Tobìnrin for you. We're building it with you.

November 11

Speaker notes

[“November 11” on screen.]

On November 11, Tobìnrin opens to the public. Everyone, everywhere, will be able to discover and book the specialists we've celebrated today.

Between now and then, this is our room. Our founding community. And I can't think of a better group of people to build this with.

Welcome to Tobìnrin

Just bloom

Speaker notes

There's someone out there doing beautiful work right now. And there's a woman looking for them. From today, they have a place to meet.

Welcome to Tobìnrin.

Just Bloom.

[Advance: Video 3 plays.]

Video 3: the Tobìnrin launch film

Video description, 1 minute, music only with no dialogue. The Tobìnrin logomark blooms open on cream. A search for knotless braids in Lekki Phase 1 on a Saturday types in (“What are we booking?”), pins drop on a map of Lagos and specialists' cards slide up (“Find her.”). The shopper opens Adaeze Glam Studio's profile, picks Saturday at 7:00 am, pays a deposit and sees “Booking Confirmed!”. The view turns to the specialist's side: her week fills with bookings and a payout arrives (“Your business, in bloom.”). A montage of real photos follows: braids, gele, makeup, a barber and a finished look, with a five-star review. It ends on the logomark and wordmark, “Book the moment.” and www.tobinrin.com.
Speaker notes

[Play video 3: Shopper and specialist together. 1 minute. Stay on stage or step aside, your choice, but don't speak over it.]

Music only, no dialogue, so no captions are needed. It rests on its final frame (“Book the moment.”) when it ends.

What the film shows: the logomark blooming; a knotless braids search in Lekki; a map of Lagos with specialists; Adaeze Glam Studio's profile; booking Saturday 7:00 am and paying a deposit; “Booking Confirmed!”; the specialist's week filling up and a payout; a montage of real photos; end card “Book the moment.” and www.tobinrin.com.
